Valve shuts down Steam console rumours
Valve confirms that they have no current plans to break into the console market.
I don’t know which misguided fan designed that mock render, but that honestly has to be the single ugliest, least user-friendly console design of the 21st century.
This is why I’m glad that fan-renders tend to be almost 100% unlike the end product. None of these arseholes are designers, and it shows.

My first thoughts upon seeing this image: The controller dable is too short and the memory card is sticking out too far. Yeah, I’m a bit shit like that.
Otherwise, beautiful work (and fantastic choice of game, obviously).
If you haven’t seen the video to Michelle Osorio’s “Me and my Companion Cube” yet, you’re probably doing the internet wrong.
We’re preparing the controllers for the upcoming Playtime - Video Game mythologies exhibit at the Swiss Museum of Science Fiction in Yverdon (Switzerland). In this case, we will feature only the “official” joypads, which is already quite big. This portion of the collection will be part of a section called “Bodies and Minds”:
Joysticks and game pads have been the traditional interface between the player and the avatar, the thread that entangles both bodies. In recent years, though, both the video game industry and independent artists and researchers have presented new innovative ways to strengthen the role of the body in game interaction. From Nintendo’s Wii and Microsoft’s Kinect to more experimental corporal interfaces that play with notions of control and even pain, the future of game interaction will, no doubt, involve our flesh and skin in unexpected ways.
The opening is March 12, please come say hi!
There’s a CD32 controller in there! I wish I could go see this exhibit.

Ask me about PortsCenter, Game Journalists Are Incompetent Fuckwits, Jump Leads, my new job, my old job, or anything else. I will answer any and all questions.
Have fun!
This is true. I will. Do it.
Great box art, guys. Just nice. Masterful, even. Because, y’now, you don’t need to see all of Scorpion. He’s Scorpion! We know what he looks like!

Personally, I think he nailed it. Good luck, Kris!
What the shit, Microsoft?
We harp on Sony for its frequent PS3 updates that typically add nothing of value. The MS folks have typically been decent about adding functionality in return for the inconvenience of an update. But now TWICE in the last week they’ve updated the system with fixes and nothing else. I mean, who gives a shit if non-English users aren’t being understood by Kinect? It’s their fault for not speaking fucking English. Christ, guys, when did you hire all the Sony engineers?
In fairness, these updates are, at most, taking five minutes to install, as opposed to Sony’s which tend to take an eon or two.
QMx’s interactive side, rather handily named QMx Interactive, is currently looking for a full-time iOS Programmer as well as an intern. In an ideal universe you’d need to know your way around Objective-C and the iOS platform, and you’d also need to live in the LA area.
If you’re at all interested, check out the job listing on the QMx Interactive website. Or don’t! It’s up to you.
Take-Two trademarks ‘GTA TV’ and ‘Rockstar TV’
Take-Two Publishing has registered a couple interesting new trademarks.
Let’s not not get carried away by describing these trademarks as “interesting.”
Thank You
In December of last year, I lost my apartment. It would have happened much, much sooner were it not for the help of people who read GJAIF, who came to my aid when I needed it. You guys bought me an extra 16 months of time, and it helped - at the end of January this year I landed a job. A perfect job. You guys have no fucking idea how much I love this job, and how excited I am to go into work every day. I couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you.
I can never begin to repay the number of you who helped us last year, but I can follow the advice many of you gave when you donated money - pay it forward. I’m going to be doing a lot of that this year. I can’t possibly hope to pay it forward on as grand a scale as I received, but I can do it in small ways. Every chance I get to pay it forward, if it’s within my means, I will do so. Because for every person on Twitter who sent me abuse, who made up shit about me, who decried me as a moron for even having this blog in the first place, there were five others who helped me keep my head above water not just in a financial sense, but in morale.
This blog, this exercise in negativity, has ended up being one of the most positive experiences in my life. I’ll never forget that.
Thank You.
